Shockwave Therapy
A non-surgical option for the pain that hasn't gone away.
Shockwave Therapy at Dennis Family Wellness Center
Have you been dealing with heel pain, shoulder pain, low back pain, or knee pain for months — and nothing seems to stick? Living with chronic soft tissue pain affects every part of your day. It limits your activity, drains your energy, and starts to feel like something you’ll just have to live with.
At Dennis Family Wellness Center, we now offer radial shockwave therapy — one of the most clinically studied non-surgical treatments available for chronic soft tissue conditions. Dr. Joe Dennis uses shockwave therapy to relieve pain, restore function, and reactivate the body’s own healing process for patients who have tried other approaches without lasting results.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy uses a handheld device to deliver focused acoustic energy — high-pressure sound waves — directly into damaged or painful tissue. It does not break the skin. There is no anesthesia. Most sessions take 10 to 15 minutes.
The energy pulses stimulate blood flow to areas that have become poorly circulated over time, break down calcifications and scar tissue that block healing, and trigger a biological repair response in tendons, fascia, and other connective tissues. In practical terms, shockwave wakes up tissue that has stopped healing on its own.
How Shockwave Therapy Restarts the Healing Process
Most acute injuries heal on their own given time. The body sends blood flow, inflammatory signals, and repair cells to the damaged area, and over several weeks the tissue rebuilds. The trouble starts when that process stalls or never fully completes. Chronic soft tissue conditions — plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff tendinopathy, patellar tendinitis, persistent low back tension — often involve tissue the body has essentially stopped trying to repair. Shockwave therapy is engineered to address exactly this scenario. It restores blood flow, breaks down calcifications, and prompts a controlled restart of the healing response. The result is that tissue that has been painful and non-responsive for months — sometimes years — begins to heal in a way it had not been able to on its own. |
Conditions Shockwave Therapy Treats
Shockwave therapy produces the most consistent results with chronic soft tissue conditions — problems involving tendons, fascia, and connective tissue that have been present for at least three to four months. At Dennis Family Wellness Center, Dr. Dennis uses shockwave to address several specific conditions.
Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain
One of the most frustrating conditions shockwave treats — and one of the conditions where it produces some of its strongest results. When that first-step morning pain becomes a daily reality, shockwave therapy offers a documented path to relief that cortisone shots and orthotics often do not. Multiple randomized controlled trials have shown significant pain reduction and functional improvement in patients who had not responded to other treatments.
Shoulder Pain and Rotator Cuff Conditions |
Calcific tendinopathy, chronic rotator cuff irritation, and shoulder impingement respond well to shockwave’s ability to break down calcium deposits and stimulate tendon repair. Patients who have been told they need surgery sometimes discover that shockwave resolves the calcification entirely, restoring function without the recovery period of an operation.
Low Back Pain and Knee Pain
For chronic muscular and tension patterns of the fascia in the lumbar spine, shockwave therapy complements chiropractic care by addressing the soft tissue component that adjustments alone may not fully resolve. For knee conditions including patellar tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, and chronic soft tissue pain around the joint, shockwave reaches deep into the tissue without needles or downtime.

“Our newborn was suffering from silent reflux and was prescribed Zantac. We did not want to medicate at such a young age and gave chiropractic a shot. After just one visit we saw an improvement and began giving less and less medicine until symptoms miraculously disappeared while under Dr Joe’s care. He was super gentle and made us feel so comfortable. I recommend Dr Joe to all new parents!”

Shockwave therapy is not the right answer for every pain complaint. The best way to know whether it is right for your specific situation is a conversation with Dr. Dennis. He will evaluate the tissue involved, review what you have already tried, and give you an honest answer about whether shockwave is likely to help.
No pressure. No commitment. Just answers.
